Basically the title, I am in search for a cool new service to run my blog on instead of WordPress due to lack of support for Firefox and free-ness (maybe…); though WordPress is nice, I would like more customization and freedom from non-free software. Also I may be looking at other services beside blog-type sites to host as well (like a wiki/guides site) and might find a different hosting provider to run this on (performance on this one’s cheap but the network on this cuts out every few or so minutes and it gets pretty annoying).
I will update this post along the way.
Website Choices
- Chyrplite (https://chyrplite.net )
- Ghost (https://ghost.org , https://github.com/TryGhost/Ghost )
- s9y/Serendipity (https://github.com/s9y/Serendipity )
- BookStack (as wiki) (https://www.bookstackapp.com )
- MediaWiki (as wiki) (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki )
- Hugo (https://gohugo.io )
My Pick: Hugo
I have finally found it! It looks really interesting and with themes, it can be made to look like what the WordPress site looks like with theming. It can be served via their built-in webserver or statically-generated webpage files that can be run by itself.
If I decide to run a wiki, I will probably be using Hugo also, because it’s also easy to just switch into a wiki-style theme and change some configuration around a little bit.
